at the 2nd annual
Orillia Comedy Festival February 29 & March 1, 2008

February 19, 2008(For Immediate Release) ORILLIA – What do you get when you’ve had months of record snow falls with several weeks of winter still to go?  The need for a weekend of comedy! The Orillia Comedy Festival is fast approaching and promises to take your mind off those winter blahs!

February 29th & March 1st is your chance to ‘leap in with laughter’ with a weekend of great comedy.  Starting on Friday night featuring Comedy on the Town, there is something for everyone!

Vote for the best of four traveling stand up comics at your favourite watering hole!  Brewery Bay, McCabes, La Mezzaluna and Tux II will have some great comedy on tap and are ready to keep you comfortable for the night. Each venue will have shows at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm and 11pm featuring the talent of Jessica Williams, Justin Renwick, Todd Van Allen and Andrew Evans. These four seasoned comedy artists will travel from location to location and keep you laughing while you stay put.  The comic you vote as the best, wins the opportunity to open for The Arrogant Worms at the Orillia Opera House on Saturday night!

Looking for dinner and show? Check out the Ossawippi express with the very funny ‘Medicine Show’ featuring Orillia’s own, Murray “Murph” Rodger and Kevin “Kevin” Knight.  Want to take the whole family out to dinner with a side order of comedy? Check out Webers Downtowner where the very funny Sandra Battaglini will be making sure your table is well entertained.  Reservations are required for both of these locations.

Don’t miss the main stage event The Arrogant Worms at The Orillia Opera House on Saturday, March 1st at 8pm for one show only.

The Arrogant Worms is a Canadian musical comedy trio that is well known for their humorous on-stage banter in addition to their music.   ‘We are so excited to offer more for the whole family this year.’ said festival chair, Donna Hewitt, explaining that the Arrogant Worms has a great teen following.  ‘My family can’t wait to see the Worms perform on the Opera House stage. We’ve got our tickets!’
